obama just made -- i think he has had is time for the four years, and it seems like we are worse off than we have ever been. he has had his time to prove to us that he could do it, but he has not prove anything to us. the people on social security today are starving to death and he has not help us one bit. as far as the war in iraq, he says he has ended that. if he finds our man over there is still getting killed, why does and he just bring our man at home and get them out of theire? sir, i thank you for your time, and god bless you. >> on our debate hub at c- span.org, we have broken a speech down into various clips. as the rally started this afternoon in denver, president obama responded to some of the comments of mitt romney. here is how it looked this afternoon. [video clip] >> we also had our first debate last night. when i got onto the stage, i met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be mitt romney. [laughter] but it couldn't have been mitt romney, because the real mitt romney has been running around the country for the last year promising $5 trillion in tax cuts to favor

and i am very disappointed in him -- obama four years ago and i am very disappointed in him. >> what made you decide to vote for mitt romney? >> i think he is the only one who could really get us out of this position that we are in. it can go on like this. i am against obama for what he did and taking 4 $5 billion out of our medicare system and putting it into obamacare. >> thank you for your calls. continue to comment if you want you on twitter and c-span.org. both presidential candidates will have campaign appearances tomorrow. we will have live coverage of president obama speaking at george mason university and later on mitt romney will be speaking in virginia. both of those will be live here on c-span. >> we need to tackle our nation ' as challenges. we need to save and strengthen medicare and social security. we're not going to scare seniors. we will save benefits for seniors and for my generation so that these promises are kept. they have laid out -- >> they say that we stole medicare and you have seen the ads and everything. nothing could be further from the truth. >> next thu

i would like to make, is 20 years ago, i became the luckyest man on earth because michelle obama married me. i just want you to know, next year we will not be celebrating it in front of 40 million people. four years ago we went through the worst financial crisis since the great depression. many jobs were lost. the auto industry was on the brink of collapse. because of the resilience and determination of the american people, we have begun to fight our way back. over the last 30 months, we have seen five million jobs in the private sector created. the auto industry has come roaring back. housing has begun to rise. the question tonight is not where we have been, but where we are going. governor romney has a perspective that says, if we cut taxes, skew toward the wealthy, and roll back regulations we will be better off. i have a different view. i think we have to invest in education and training. i think it is important for us to develop new sources of energy here in america, that we change our tax code to make sure we are helping small businesses and companies here in the united sta

to be an ideologue for the past few years. obama seemed to be like a team sitting on a lead. i would not have said smog it, i would have just said somebody who did not seem to be terribly hungry for it. -- i would not say smug, just somebody that was not hungry for it. i did not really big in these examples after, i do not particularly care for them. -- these instant polls, i didn't care for them. when you see who did the best job, obama 25, romney 67. obama did better than expected 21%, worse than expected 61%. romney did 82% better than expected, at 10% said they thought he did worse than they expected. my guess is the 10% or partisans. democracy first, a democratic polling firm. romney has a good night, but no evidence of changing the game. i agree with them completely on the first that romney had a good night. i think we will have to see a minute whether it changed the game. walmart sponsored their walmart focus groups with momentum analysis, a democratic polling firm, one of glen's partners together. they suggested a monster lot of walmart moms, it was a win for romney. the people in the grou

. host: thank you. guest: there is no question -- president obama had a jobs bill last year. as it at scale wit hh the problems we faced? no. but it was a jobs bill. the republicans had no use for it. it was put aside because they did not want to have the present have a success. they were not interested in creating jobs. do they have a jobs plan? there is no record that cutting tax creates jobs. the republicans have been a obstructionists, but i do think the democrats need to be bolder and put forward many more ideas about how to create jobs. in my mind the democratic party is a coalition of interest. the republican party i think will possibly expire because it has become so extremist. it risks extinction in a country going through such demographic shifts. it is primarily a white, older party to that. -- today. it doesn't understand how they will operate. they will throw as much money and do the vote suppression which about 11 courts have said we're not going to buy into the idea of bogus voter fraud to impair the greatest rights america has. which is to vote. host: we have

looks like. that expires at the end of the year. in 2009, president obama took office and the stimulus act included new credits that were primarily focused on low-income families, also those with kids in college. those were extended through 2010 and expire at the end of the year. in addition to all of those expiring tax cuts from a fiscal and economic point of view and everything we have more including the 2010 health reform act. when you look at debate over the fiscal cliff, there is actually a very diverse array of tax discussion. at the low end of the income distribution, for example, the credits that were enacted in 2009 turned out to be very important, as does the deborah cut in payroll taxes. the temporary cuts seem to be important for those in the middle range -- middle range of income. if you go to the high end of income distribution and the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts that affect high-income folks, there are also the health reform taxes that are important. there are different components of the fiscal of that are particularly important. if it is important to note that the payroll ta
